At the start of this year I decided that there were 2 things I wanted to do for myself in 2015 – learn floristry and calligraphy basics. So when I saw Brick + Mortar Creative advertise Jess Matthews ‘Introduction to Brush Lettering Workshop’ I knew I had to do it….and now I am obsessed!
The more creative, casual side of this style of writing is much more suited to me than the perfection of calligraphy, so was meant to be that I was one of the lucky ones attending Jess’ workshop. I am excited to be able to incorporate this more into By The Oaktree through chalkboards, place cards and any other hand written work required. I can’t wait to make some more posters and greeting cards too!

gathered. (with a lower case g and a full stop!) is the thought baby of myself (By The Oaktree) and Susie from Love Cherish Adore, based on the notion of ‘gathering’ people together for a new kind of market experience.
Highlighting the amazing local talent that we have here in South Australia and boosting our local economy, our first market this Christmas is coming together quite nicely, if I don’t say so myself!
Held in the magical setting that is the Queen’s Theatre, our guests will be able to find everything they need for their loved ones this christmas across multi price points for women, men + children.
gathered. will showcase some of SA’s finest local produce from food to wine + coffee + ice blocks of course! We have some great workshops and cooking demonstrations lined up along with some attractions to keep the kids busy while you shop!
Applications are still currently open for market stall holders, so if you have wares to offer and you’re operating from within our lovely state then drop us a line at hello@gatheredsa.com
Keep an eye out for updates on the market via our Facebook and Instagram pages where we will soon be showing off our lovely exhibitors!

After working closely with a lovely couple of ours who had only 6 months to plan their wedding and with both of them working busy full time jobs, it opened our eyes to how many great contacts and relationships we have within the wedding industry!
So after considering how we could assist more couples like this, we are excited to launch…
>>> A Different Type of Wedding Planner <<<
Listening to the future Mr & Mrs H, we were able to match vendors with their personalities and style straight away. By The Oaktree then made contact with each of them to obtain quotes, which were then all sent through to the couple for them to look over on weekends and make adjustments and decisions.
As we were also styling their special day with our vintage props, we were able to offer a lot of advice as to what things would work together and other things that wouldn’t. As the bride said ‘I only care what my dress looks like and you (BTO) can do everything else’…we were there to offer advice on celebrants that would match their personalities, colours of flowers that would work together with the dresses and stationary along with details about where the ceremony should be held so that the photographer could get the best backdrop on the day.
As my background is in interior design (I also worked on their new home too!) I was able to draw up optional table seating plans to see how it would best work for them to fit all of their guests into the space along with the dance floor, bar, lounge area and of course the cake!
Looking forward to sharing the photos with you in 5 months time! Yes it only took us a month to plan their whole wedding and now they can sit back and enjoy the ride…Kitchen Tea and Hens Night planning is up next!
A Different Type Of Wedding Planner
Our experience in the industry and relationships with all contacts allows us to judge which vendors we think will be suited to your individual personalities and of course the style of wedding you are dreaming of. The worst thing that can happen on your one special day is to be let down by someone or their product (trust me we know from our own wedding!)
Initial consult – $290
The consult will include the following:
- 2 hour consult to go through the plans for your wedding
- identifying your style and vision for your wedding day
- establish what you have already booked or planned
- go through our checklist of what needs to be done and in what order
After our meeting, we will provide you with documented information about what we have discussed and contact details for quality vendors who we feel will be best suited to you and your style. We will also contact them to let them know a brief background about your wedding.
After a little more guidance – $350-$750
- Another 1-2 hour consult to get more detail about what colours, themes, looks etc. you are aiming for. If you have booked your venue, we would love to meet you there, as this helps to visualise how everything will work together.
- On your behalf, we will liaise with those suppliers that we feel would be best suited to you and organise quotes that will then be forwarded on to you.
If you decide that you need our assistance further for things like floor/seating plans, meetings with vendors etc. we can work out custom pricing for you!
Contact me for more info.

We can’t believe that it was only a month ago that we met with the fabulous Hayley and Lauren from Adelady to discuss their launch party over a couple of coffee’s at the Dulwich Corner Store Cafe. We offered plenty of ideas and suggestions, ALL which were taken up!
So last Thursday night, we were back at the Dulwich Corner Store Cafe full steam ahead setting up our props and styling their event! The Adelady logo being a pineapple, set the theme for the night along with plenty of bright colours and beautiful candles…
Our Pie Cart was used to display the drinks dispensers with pineapple cocktails for guests on entry.
Each guest was then able to select a Vintage Glass from our Meat Safe to use for the night…
And then there were the amazing cupcakes from Le Pink Petite Patisserie displayed on our Coffee Tables…
It was such a great night and we are so very proud to have been apart of it. Congratulations girls!!!
Winter is my favourite time of year…especially being lucky enough to live in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. SO…after months of planning, I am really excited that there is only one more week until the Love Cherish Adore Adelaide Hills Wedding Fair in Hahndorf.
Being major sponsors of this fair, we are thrilled that there are so many creative and unique exhibitors on board to help with all areas of planning a couple’s most special of days. This year View Road Wines will be offering a glass of their Prosecco on entry, along with tastings of their other gorgeous wines + a complimentary copy of The Bride’s Diary more wine tasting from Wine Please, who offer wine registry’s!
All of this PLUS the amazing Bridal Boot Sale where there will be so many treasures on offer!
By The Oaktree will be styling the whole event + our own stall, which will showcase our vintage props and styling. Each fair brings a new space to work with an endless creative ideas to showcase who we are and what we can do for each individual bride. The Love Cherish Adore fairs are our only choice and we love creating new concepts each time.
So come along and enjoy the day, with all of the amazing things on offer and vendors to speak to, you are bound to kick start your wedding planning in the right direction!
